Brighten up your Home with Feature Walls!

A Feature Wall for your home interiorFeature walls could give dramatic and affordable results by just adding some colour to your room. They are also a great choice when it comes to defining spaces in open layouts and can be used to highlight the strength of a room or angle or space.

Choosing the wall is important and there are some criteria to consider while choosing one. The wall with most area can be chosen. Walls with windows, air conditioners have to be avoided while interesting angles like the wall next to a stair can be a good choice.

When it comes to choosing a colour for a feature wall it is good to be adventurous because it is easy to change the colour later. It comes down to personal choice and you can choose the colour of any object in the room or even the rug or carpet if you have one in the room. Ensure that the feature wall colour works with other colours around because it can change the whole mood of the room. Make sure to paint other walls lighter to avoid too much contrast. Here are a few tips:

  • Painting a shorter wall as a feature wall in a rich, deep colour will make it appear to come out
  • Rich deep colours help highlight a certain area and can help balance out and enhance a long narrow room
  • Painting the longest wall in the room will only strengthen the narrowness of the room
  • The wall behind the bed works best in bedrooms as the feature wall
  • The wall parallel with the table or buffet in a dining room is ideal as a feature wall
