Get a headstart on designing.

Designing your new home can be exciting until you realize you’ve either bungled it up or run out of money half way through. Beyond this point it may turn out to be quite a nightmare and end up as a disastrous experience. So how do you make sure that you sail smoothly till the final stages without facing any hiccups?

Here are some starters that could be useful:

• First of all get a low down on your budget, because only you know the extent to which you can stretch your finances
• Based on how big your budget is, take a call on what kind of looks you want - simple and elegant, expensive and classy or something ostentatious
• Make a rough calculation with allocations set out for each task – that includes painting, fixtures, furnishing and furniture
• Decide every colour, every light fitting, and every cupboard placement and visualize it. Better still write it down to avoid confusion
• If need be, consult a professional interior designer to enhance or fine tune the designing
• You could also re-visit homes that you found attractive for its aesthetics and design to re-kindle your creative instincts
• Design magazines could be a great source of inspiration too, to re-fuel your idea bank
• Get a thorough feel of the house and study it before you take any design decisions
• Know which room gets light at which times of the day. Are there any wasted corners or usable spaces? Because all this will help you in bettering your design strategy

Remember, the builder merely lays the building block, the architect gives shape to your ideas, but only you can breathe life into your home. So don’t be hasty and rush things up. Because, if things go wrong, it could be difficult to reverse or undo it.
