Used car buying tips |
| Looking to buy a used car? Well, even as you save on the initial cost, don't forget that the
running costs on maintenance could be high with a used car!
So, don't get carried away by the attractive
price tag and jump for it. Make a thorough
inspection on all fronts and don’t finalise
the deal unless you’ve checked the vehicle
on all fronts. Here are some cues to help
you buy the best car. |
-
First and foremost, find out from the seller (if its an individual) why he's trying to dispose the car.
-
Conduct a thorough physical check of the car. Look for dents, scratches, nicks and signs of re-paint on the body. A mechanic could be of help here.
-
Also remember to check the tyres. Are they balding and need re-treading? If so, remember to counter the price of replacing them while negotiating the deal.
-
Don’t forget to look under the bonnet too. Don’t hesitate to question if you have any suspicions about the parts.
-
As for interiors, the air-conditioning, the pedals, the steering wheel, the dashboard lights – all need a good examination.
-
Test-drive the car and assess your driving comfort while riding.
-
Consult an authorized dealer to get the vehicle rated. There are lots of factors that decide the price of the used car. The model, condition, mileage, performance etc.
-
Do a background check on ownership details, accidents, insurance, mechanical problems – if any.
-
Once the deal is through, make sure to get the terms of the deal in writing.
