All you motor vehicle enthusiasts will get to see the latest line up of new entrants and variants when the Auto Expo kicks off in Delhi on January 7th 2012. The Auto Expo promises to be a bright start to what has been a slow year for auto majors globally.
This will be the 11th edition of the international exposition and according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) will feature 1,500 exhibits from 24 countries.
Auto Expo 2010 saw over 1.2 million visitors who came to see 2015 exhibits and 42 vehicle manufacturers show off their wares. But in 2012, numbers are likely to be lower due to a visitor cap of 100,000 people per day because of space constraints. Here is a brief look at some of the new launches and highlights from auto majors.
The Tatas are reportedly going to showcase their all-new Safari SUV “Safari Storm”. The car which is based on the Aria platform will be powered by the same 2.2 litre engine powering the Dicor. The Pixel city car concept which was showcased at the Geneva motor show in early 2011 will now make its Auto Expo debut.
Enthusiasts are looking forward to see Maruti Suzuki Ertiga MPV to be showcased at the expo. The small concept SUV will be a seven seater with a 1.4 litre K-series petrol engine and 1.3 litre turbocharged diesel. Apart from the Ertiga, the Suzuki stable is also like to showcase the Swift Sport and a hybrid swift.
Some of the other show stoppers promise to be the BMW Mini, Hyundai Sonata, Ford Ecosport and Merc B-Class.
Honda’s new small car being developed for India and other emerging markets will be unveiled at the Auto Expo 2012.
Mahindra and Mahindra after its acquisition of the Korean automobile manufacturer SsangYong Motor Company (SYMC) will be showcasing for the first time its line up from SsangYong stable. This includes the Sports Utility Vehicles (SUV) Rexton and Korando-C. Apart from these new shows, M&M will also showcase the electric vehicle Mahindra Reva NXR and the electric variant of its sedan Verito (formerly the Logan).
This time around Ford will be revealing its all-new global vehicle to be introduced in India and other world markets soon. Also on display will be the new Figo, new Fiesta and the classic with the new Endeavour models.
The international expo being jointly organised by SIAM, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) is also rated to be the second highest motor show in the world. The rents at the Delhi Auto Expo are said to be the highest and second only to Shanghai.
