Preparing your home for guests this vacation

Posted by Royal Sundaram on 09 Apr 2013

Admit it; it is fun when you have friends or relatives to come over for a stay at your place. Even if it is a short or a long trip, it is a good change from the regular. But an important thing to do for such an event is to make sure your home is well prepared to give your guests a comfortable stay. If you are preparing for guests to stay at you place in the coming days, here’s what you can do:

Deep clean your home –

Even before your guests enter the room allotted to them, they will get a glimpse of your house. So make sure you run a mega cleaning session before the guests arrive. Get rid of all the dust and clutter around the house. Have the house smelling fresh and give a bright look to it.

Prepare the guest room –

The area where your guest will spend most of the time is very important. Start by cleaning the guest room and de-cluttering it. There needs to be enough space for them to keep their suitcases and move around as well. Change the curtains of the room if required along with the bed sheets. A well-made bed gives the room a very inviting look. Also, many homes may not have the provision to give the guest a separate room. In such cases, the residents of the house compromise by sharing their room with the guest. If you are going to make a similar adjustment, then you’ll need to clear some place for the guests. Keep aside all that you don’t use regularly and make more room.

Pay special attention to the bathrooms –

There can be an over usage of the bathroom now that you will have more people living your house. So pay special attention to the hygiene maintained in there. Start by cleaning your bathroom well and giving it a fresh ambience. Place some new towels and a deodorizer in the bathroom to give it a clean feeling each time someone enters. Keep it dry. Also, ask your family to keep their toiletries away to make room for the guest’s toiletries.

Extra touches to your home –

When you have guests at home, it just does not stop with by giving them a wonderful room to stay in. Some thoughtful gestures will make them feel comfortable. If they are visiting the city for the first time, then prepare a list of places they should visit and help them out with a mode of transportation. If children are visiting as well then have some toys arranged for them to keep them occupied. If you know your guest is fond of a particular cuisine, find out the best restaurant in town for the same.
