What is Home Content Insurance? How is it different from Home Insurance?
Home Content Insurance is a policy which exclusively covers your precious household items such as TV, Washing Machine, Personal Computer, furniture, curtains, crockery, jewellery, etc against perils such as fire accidents, flood inundation, earthquake, electrical and mechanical wear and tear.

While Home Insurance covers the home's structure, Home Content Insurance covers the contents kept inside your home, including jewellery worn by you/your family members who reside with you.
What contents of home are covered by the Policy?
  • Household articles such as clothing, carpet, furniture, fixtures, crockery, utensils, etc.
  • Home electronics and appliances, such as Personal Computer, TV, Washing Machine, Fridge, Mixi, etc.
  • Jewellery worn by family members who reside with you

Appliances will be subject to 5% depreciation every year, to a maximum of 50%. For detailed information about coverage, please refer the Terms and Conditions of the Policy.
What perils are covered under Home Content Insurance?
The Policy covers these perils-

  • Fire and Allied Perils
  • Theft / burglary / chain snatching (for jewellery)
  • House breaking
  • Earthquake (Fire and Shock) or other convulsions of nature
  • Flood inundation / Cyclone / Storm
  • Electrical and Mechanical breakdown (includes defects in equipment, fluctuation in electrical supply)
  • Riot, Strike, Malicious Damage, Terrorism
  • Lightning, Explosion or implosion
  • Subsidence and Landslide (including Rockslide)
  • Aircraft or articles dropped there from
  • Storm, Cyclone, Typhoon, Tempest, Hurricane,Tornado, Flood and Inundation
  • Bursting and/or over flowing of water tanks, apparatus and pipes
  • Leakage from automatic sprinkler installation
  • Bush Fire
  • Missile Testing Operation
  • Impact damage - Loss of or visible physical damage or destruction caused to the property insured due to impact by any Rail/Road vehicle or animal by direct contact not belonging to or owned  by 1) the Insured or any occupier of the premises or 2)their employees while acting in the course of their employment
What perils are not covered under Home Content Insurance?
  • Natural wear and tear with age of appliances
  • Radioactive contamination or explosion
  • Loss or damage caused by repairing or dismantling of the insured apparatus
  • Loss or damage caused due to war or terrorism
  • Forest fires
  • Loss or damage due to pollution of contamination.

How can I estimate the value of contents in my home?
You needn't estimate and report the value of contents in your home. Just choose a plan which would be sufficient to cover all your home contents in the unfortunate event of damage
If I lose my jewellery while travelling abroad, will I be reimbursed?
Home Content Insurance's covers theft / chain snatching incident only within India
Is jewellery covered by the Policy?
Yes, jewellery worn by you/your family members who reside with you is covered by the Policy.

What is Kutcha Construction?
Building(s) which have walls and/or roofs made of wooden planks / thatched leaves and/or grass / hay or any kind of bamboo / plastic cloth / asphalt / cloth / canvas / tarpaulin etc, is considered as 'Kutcha' construction.

We would be unable to cover contents kept in homes made of Kutcha construction.
Can I upgrade my Home Content Insurance Policy plan?
Yes, you can upgrade your Home Content Insurance plan. Just talk to our customer support and they will guide you through the process. However, upgrade can be done only at the time of renewal.
 
Is there a limit to which compensation will be made?
Yes, there is an upper cap of compensation depending on the Plan you choose.

  • The maximum compensation for Household items such as curtains, carpets, furniture fittings, crockery ranges from Rs. 1.5 Lakhs to Rs. 5 Lakhs
  • The upper limit of compensation per item ranges from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 20,000 
  • The compensation for Household appliances such as Washing Machine, Fridge, Mixi, Microwave oven ranges from Rs. 1.5 Lakhs to Rs. 3 Lakhs.
  • The upper limit of compensation per item ranges from Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 40,000 
  • The compensation for electronics such as TV, Personal Computer, Air Conditioner ranges from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 2 Lakhs.
  • The upper limit of compensation per item ranges from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 40,000
  • The compensation for jewellery worn by family members ranges from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 1.5 Lakhs.
  • The upper limit of compensation per item ranges from Rs. 7,500 to Rs. 20,000 

What is the procedure to make a Claim? What are the documents required?
To make a Claim under Royal Sundaram Home Content Insurance -
 
  • Inform our Customer Support. We'll dispatch a Claim Form. You can also download the same from our website.
  • We will appoint a Surveyor to track and help you with the Claim process.
  • In case of damage of household contents, you can proceed with repairs. Once the repair is completed, you can send the bills of repair with requisite documents to us.
  • In case of theft, you can send the requisite documents through the Third party investigator.
  • If your Claim is approved, we will mail you the cheque for reimbursement.

The following documents may be required, depending on the nature of Claim.
 
  • Duly completed Claim Form
  • First Information Report for Burglary, theft and larceny, loss of Jewellery
  • Estimate for Repairs/ Replacement
  • Invoice/Bills/ Receipts
  • Fire Brigade Report (in case of Loss, Destruction or Damage by Fire)
  • Meteorological Report (in case of Loss, Destruction or Damage by Flood, Storm, Cyclone)
  • Non-traceable Certificate (in case of Burglary or Theft)
  • Any other documents as required by the Insurer, which depend on the nature of the claim preferred.
I bought a new Washing Machine. What do I need to do to include it in the Policy?
You need not take any steps to include it in the Policy. Royal Sundaram Home Content Insurance covers to your household items without any declaration.
I live in a rented home. Can I avail Home Content Insurance for my home?
Yes, you can avail Home Content Insurance for the items in your home. But if you change your residence, please do inform our Customer Support, so that we make necessary changes in our records.
How will the Premium be affected if I make a Claim?
If you make a Claim and the same is accepted by us, there will be no change in the Premium.
However, the Sum Insured will be reduced by the amount for which compensation is paid
Can I cancel my Policy? What is the refund of Premium I can expect?
If you wish to cancel your Policy for any reason, you can do so. Please inform our Customer Support in writing about your wish to cancel the Policy and give us a notice period of 14 days.

The refund on Premium will be on short period rates as mentioned below.
