Asthma
Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways of the lungs in which the airways narrow, swell, and produce extra mucus. Asthma can make breathing difficult and trigger coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath.
As many different factors come together to cause asthma, there are many different types of the disease, based on age and severity. For some people, asthma may be a minor nuisance. For others, it can be a severe problem that may interfere with daily activities and may lead to a life-threatening asthma attack.
Types of Asthmas include Childhood asthma, Adult-onset asthma, Occupational asthma, Seasonal asthma, Difficult-to-control and severe asthma. Children are more likely to have an irregular form of asthma that comes in the form of attacks. However, Asthma in adults is usually persistent and requires daily administration to prevent symptoms. Allergies lead to at least 30% of adult asthma. Obesity is a strong risk factor for adult-onset asthma, and women are likely to develop the condition after the age of 20 years.
